In the next major change to Google's search algorithm that's due later this year (Penguin 2?), Google will be especially looking at the 'quality' of e-commerce websites because, as Matt Cutts stated recently:

If you are going to post a comment on someone's Blog, it's always wise (and decent) to do it properly.  Interact, provide interesting feedback, suggestions or whatever and the Blog owner will be much more likely to approve your comment.

In the olden days, if one site linked to another and that same site linked back (reciprocal link) this was a valid link-building strategy.
